Project Title
- Biopolymer-based functional platforms for advanced in vitro target and co-delivery of therapeutic payloads for the treatment of coronavirus infection
Aim and Scope
- The Project aims to develop an integral strategy in the therapy against the coronavirus infection through design of stable biopolymer-based carriers (capsules) for in vitro delivery of therapeutics (synthetic antiviral agents, natural extracts and the reference substance Remdesivir).
- The capsules will be obtained by using natural, biocompatible and biodegradable polymers via completely safe and eco-friendly techniques. The overall concept of the Project is developed on the basis of a working hypothesis for a combined effect of co-encapsulated aptamers and potential therapeutics designed for inhibition of the infection and viral replication in host cells.
- The Project brings together scientists with complementary expertise in biotechnology, microbiology, virology, microscopy, biopolymer chemistry and colloid science.
