Project Title

  1. Biopolymer-based functional platforms for advanced in vitro target and co-delivery of therapeutic payloads for the treatment of coronavirus infection

Aim and Scope

  1. The Project aims to develop an integral strategy in the therapy against the coronavirus infection through design of stable biopolymer-based carriers (capsules) for in vitro delivery of therapeutics (synthetic antiviral agents, natural extracts and the reference substance Remdesivir).
  1. The capsules will be obtained by using natural, biocompatible and biodegradable polymers via completely safe and eco-friendly techniques. The overall concept of the Project is developed on the basis of a working hypothesis for a combined effect of co-encapsulated aptamers and potential therapeutics designed for inhibition of the infection and viral replication in host cells.
  1. The Project brings together scientists with complementary expertise in biotechnology, microbiology, virology, microscopy, biopolymer chemistry and colloid science.
