Christo Nanev Nanev was born in Kazanlik, Bulgaria, in 1938. He graduated from Chemical Faculty of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in 1964.
Before the graduation he specialized in crystal whisker growth in Institute for Physics, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Prague, 1963. As Humboldt fellow Christo Nanev worked in Germany at Max-Planck-Institute of Metal Research, Stuttgart (in 1967-68, and again in 1988) and in Braunschweig (1974-75).
Christo Nanev received his Ph.D. in crystal growth under the supervision of Professor Rostislaw Kaischew in 1973. He became senior researcher in the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1975. In 1990 C.N. Nanev became D.Sc., and since 1991 he is Professor in Physical Chemistry.
From beginning of 1993 till the end 2008 Christo Nanev was Director of the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Currently he is Professor-Emeritus in the same Institute, and head of the Group for protein crystallization.
Christo Nanev published more than 120 scientific papers, predominantly in international referred journals.
MAIN SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS:
Crystal nucleation and growth, including protein crystallization, thin films, electro-crystallization, and galvanic coatings.
Space experiment on morphological stability of crystals performed in 1983.
